Details Glevum Lacemakers have over 115 members, 70-80 of whom meet bi-monthly at Churchdown Community Centre. Our membership covers Gloucestershire, Worcestershire, Somerset, Oxfordshire and even Norfolk!All types of lace are made – Torchon, Bucks, Bedfordshire, Needlelace, Milanese, Honiton etc. All abilities are welcome. It is a self-help group as no formal tuition is available although we try to encourage new lacemakers. Speakers and suppliers are arranged for several meetings per year some on lace/crafts some totally unrelated to lacemaking. There is a raffle at each meeting, a quarter of the money taken goes to the group’s Charity of the Year.

About Durting the year we have a series of free meetings for members in February,March,May,July,September and October with guest speakers covering a wide and interesting range of gardening and associated topics, followed by tea and biscuits, question time and raffle. The meetings are held on the first Thursday of these months, in the Main Hall at Churchdown Community Centre. We gather from 7.15 pm starting meetings by 7.45 pm and a pleasant and relaxing evening enjoyed by all.

In April we have a Friday social evening with a  ‘Bring and share’ supper and some form of entertainment such a quiz or live music.
Then in mid-June we have our Members Rose and Sweet Pea Show followed by a cheese salad supper.
Every year we stage our Annual Show in August.

Our year concludes with our AGM in November, which is again followed by a ploughmans’ supper and entertainment.

Other Churchdown Horticultural Society has been a going concern since 1950 and at Churchdown Community Centre. Churchdown Horticultural Society is affiliated to the Royal Horticultural Soceity (RHS), Gloucestershire Federation of Gardening Societies (GFGS) and Churchdown Community Association (CCA)

Our RHS affiliation attracts the following benefits for he society:
